Year 5/6 2024 - 2025
Hello everyone and welcome to Year 5/6
Our teacher is Mrs Devitt and Miss Trolley works in our class as well.
Autumn Term Topics
We are really excited about returning to learning and finding out more about the different topics we are studying.
In History we will be learning about World War 2 Our art is based upon perspective drawing. In Science we are learning all about electricity and we will be going to UCLAN Young Science Centre. Our RE question this term is "Is there one journey or many? and we will be focusing on Hinduism for this. During our PE lessons we will be developing our team work skills through outdoor and adventurous activities along with gymnastics. We will be looking at networks and communication in Computing. Our English lessons will be based on the book "Running Wild". In Maths we will be learning about place value along with addition and subtraction.
PE and Outdoor Learning
PE is on a Thursday and Friday. All children need a PE kit (black shorts, white t-shirt, trainers and warm outdoor clothes), hair should be tied back and no earrings worn. Later in the year, some children will also be swimming at Hutton pool )
Homework
Each day, children are expected to read for at least 20 minutes, practice their spellings and spend 5 minutes on TT Rockstars.
Weekly - 1 piece of English and Maths plus a topic piece termly. This may be set on Mirodo
Homework will usually be set on a Thursday and should be returned by the following Tuesday. Longer topic type tasks may be set from time to time.
Class Dojo
The school is continuing to use the Class Dojo software as a reward system. Most parents are already signed up from last year but for those who aren't, a letter detailing how to sign up and access the app will be sent home with your child. Once downloaded, you will then be able to see how your child is getting on in class and have access to the message facility where I will post updates about the class.
